Les Chouettes

Les Chouettes

The French Country Cottages – Les Chouettes is nestled in the cinglet of the Dordogne River, in the Perigord Noir only a mere kilometre from the charming village of TREMOLAT. It offers many fabulous restaurants and bistros.

This beautifully renovated 250 year old four bedroom, two bathroom cottage in Tremolat, has two lounges, a big kitchen, a large swimming pool and 3 outdoor living areas. The cottage sleeps 8 people comfortably in 2 queensize beds, 2 single beds and 1 double bed. Rent the cottage on its own or with our newly renovated barn.

This exquisitely renovated (2017) barn offers a large open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room area, with high vaulted ceilings, three large bedrooms. The bedroom upstairs has one queensize bed and a single bed for a child or if you are sharing with a friend. The bathroom is en-suite. It has a lovely victorian bath and shower. The bedroom downstairs has 2 single beds that can be converted into a kingsize bed as well as a sleeper couch. There a large adjacent Italian shower room, toilet and basin. The third bedroom has beautiful high ceilings and a lovely wooden sleigh bed. Next to this room is a toiletroom.

You will also find an attractive outdoor entertainment area overlooking the walnut orchard. This barn sleeps up to six people. The cottage and barn is the ideal place for a big family or groups of friends to relax and unwind. Both the cottage and barn offer heating for winter.

TREMOLAT VILLAGE:

We are proud of our Michelin star restaurant in Le Vieux Logis hotel. People visit the restaurant/hotel from far and wide. The “Bistro en Face” in Tremolat has a variety of local dishes ranging from 9 Euros to 25 Euros. One must not leave without tasting the delicious magret de canard or foie gras.

Les Tartines is a quaint wine bar offering a simple fare of toasties, delicious duck burgers and good quality wine. It is a great place to pop in for a light meal and watch the world go by. “Nulle Part Ailleurs” is a Pizzeria in the square has the most delicious pizzas as well has some of the local dishes. Prices range from 9 Euros to 20 Euros. Explore the many villages in the surrounding areas using our bicycles. There are so many wonderful markets to be discovered. Sarlat-la-caneda is well known as an old bastide town. Every Wednesday and Saturday on can visit the bustling market. There are so many wonderful stalls, all offering delicious cans of foie gras, honey, walnuts, fresh produce, fish, meat and much much more.

My other favourite markets are the markets at Issigeac, Bergerac, Lalinde and Perigeaux. If peace and tranquility is what you are looking for, take the time to visit the charming village of LIMEUIL. This is where the Dordogne River and The Vezerre Rivers meet. Pack a picnic and enjoy the lovely view from the banks, or simply pull up a chair on the deck and enjoy watching the sun go down.

Cruise the old-fashioned way in traditional gabarres (were once old flat bottom trade boats) and discover 5 chateaux! An experience you’ll never forget! These flat-bottomed boats have been designed for your comfort and entertainment. The cruise lasts an hour and is fully guided. Commentaries are in English, French or Spanish. Cruises leave from the magnificent fortified village of La Roque
Gageac (41 Kms) and will take you past the Pendoïlles cliffs, the Tarde Manor, the Château and port of La Malartie, the Saint Julien Chapel, the Lacoste Château, Chateau de Castelnaud and Chateau de Marqueyssac. Gabarres also depart from the port of Beynac (where the first part of the film Chocolat was Filmed) (36 kms from The French Country Cottage).

Whilst you are in the area, take the time to step into the history of the 100s years war by exploring the castles of Beynac and Castelnaud. Should you be energetic, one can hire paddle boats. Trips start at various points on the Vezerre and the Dordogne rivers. They really are a lot of fun as one can pack a picnic (or order one to take with you) or simply stop off at the many restaurants en-route.

GOLF:

There are many good quality golf-courses in the  area. We can advise you accordingly.

HIKING AND BIRDING:

There are so many fabulous trails to follow. The French country cottage provides all the material you will need. The Dordogne valley and its rolling hills, has so much to see and do. If you love history there are beautiful chateaux and castles nearby. You can visit the many caves which have evidence of the lives of early man. The region is well known for its foie gras, truffles, chestnuts, honey and walnuts.

Your time at Les Chouettes will be filled with wonderful memories, you will find yourself longing to return.
