Buying in France in 2022 Webinar: Our Experts Reveal Their Top Tips

*This webinar has now aired: watch the full replay here.

This month’s FrenchEntrée Webinar (Thursday 31st March at 10am UK time)  is all about navigating the French property market in 2022, and host Zoë Smith will be joined by an expert panel including a property consultant, currency exchange specialist, and international legal advisor. If you haven’t already signed up, here are four good reasons to do so.

1. Get the inside scoop on the 2022 property market

Two years into a pandemic, just over a year since Brexit, and recent political and economic changes have all impacted the French property market in 2022. In an ever-changing world, the property market can be fast-moving too, and if you’re looking to buy in the current market, having the insight of our property experts will be more important than ever.

The first member of our panel, Fiona Watton, is a bilingual property consultant for FrenchEntrée who has worked with a number of estate agents both in France and the UK. She’ll be giving us an insight into the French property market in 2022 and providing her top tips to help you snag your dream property.

2. Find out how to protect yourself against economic changes

The global political and economic situation also has an effect on currency exchange rates, and as our second panellist, Mar Bonnin-Palmer from Moneycorp, will tell us, the difference between a favourable and not so favourable rate when buying property in France could cost you—or save you!—thousands.

Mar will talk you through your options for exchanging your pounds, dollars, or other currency into euros, and offer expert advice to ensure you get the best rate for you. She doesn’t have a crystal ball to predict the future of currency rates (unfortunately!), but she does have more than 13 years of experience in foreign exchange, helping thousands of clients to purchase in France, so she has plenty of great advice to impart.

3. Receive legal advice now to protect you later

Have you heard the latest changes to French forced heirship rules which came into play at the end of last year? Do you understand your liability for capital gains tax and inheritance tax as a French property owner (even if you don’t become resident in France)? Will you need to use a French Fiscal Representative to sell your property in France? What’s changed for British buyers hoping to retire to France after Brexit?

All of these questions (and more) are important areas of consideration if you’re looking to buy, sell, or move to France, and it’s crucial to seek advice before you move ahead with your property purchase. Thankfully, we’ve also got Dan Harris, head of Stone King Solliciter’s specialist international and cross-border unit, on our panel to answer all of these questions and more.

4. Your FAQs answered!

Do you have questions you want answering about buying in France, moving to France, or retiring in France? For the first time, we’re opening up our Q&A panel early, so you can send us your questions in advance. So, whether you can’t make the webinar, have a question that might require further research, or just want to make sure we answer your question – get in touch NOW!

Send your questions to us at: [email protected].

      Hi Brooke,

While our upcoming webinar is unfortunately on UK time due to this particular panel of experts being based in the UK and France, we try our hardest to cater for as many of our readers around the world as possible. All our webinars are recorded and available to stream for free on our YouTube channel, which you can find here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UComF7R7JOOliWvFEdQAijBA) and if you sign up for the webinar, we'll make sure you are the first to hear about this - we'll send you the link directly as soon as it's live (typically within 24-48 hours after the webinar).

We have also opened questions for the webinar in advance to ensure those who can't attend don't miss out on the chance to put their question to our experts - you can send your question to us right now at [email protected].

Finally, we are currently putting together a webinar in the coming months solely for our American readers, which will focus on the specifics of buying property and moving to France from an American perspective - and of course, this webinar will be organised for a time suitable for our US audience. Keep an eye on our weekly News Digest or sign up for our newsletter if you haven't already to make sure you don't miss it!

I hope you can join us!

      best regards, Zoe
