Ski Property Buyers Can Follow Online as Their New Homes Take Shape
Britons who have bought off-plan one of the new ski properties taking shape in the French Alpine resort of Tignes can make daily on-line checks on building progress thanks to a ‘spy-in-the-sky’.
Developer MGM has installed a webcam on the roof of the parish church in Tignes 1800 where the company has quite literally transformed a run-down village to create an impressive new ski resort which is, in effect, a brand new gateway to the old-established resort of Tignes. The webcam revolves continuously to show the chalets containing new apartments under construction as well as the rest of the pedestrianised village.
At the heart of the village is MGM’s ski-in, ski-out résidence de tourisme, Résidence Kalinda, in which the leaseback apartments for sale have proved so popular with buyers – a quarter of them from the UK – that work on the next phase has been brought forward. The new properties will be ready to occupy later this year.
When they are complete, Résidence Kalinda will comprise 250 apartments of one, two, three and four bedrooms.
Finished externally in traditional stone and timber, they all come with underground parking, cellar storage, locker rooms, laundry and drying rooms.
Facilities within MGM’s résidence include an indoor pool, fitness suite, gym, sauna, jacuzzi and steam rooms, as well as an Ô des Cimes beauty centre with a variety of massages and treatments on offer.
The occupiers of many of the new apartments enjoy panoramic views of the mountains – snow-capped throughout the year – and the Tarentaise Valley below Tignes 1800.
The family-orientated village of Tignes 1800 includes a tourist information centre, ten shops and a ski school as well as a choice of bars and restaurants with frontages on both the village square and the piste.

Prices at Résidence Kalinda start at €175,000 for a studio with a floor area of 29 sq metres rising to €500,000 for a 83 sq metre three-bedroom apartment on the top floor. A two-bedroom apartment with a floor area of 55 sq metres is priced at €310,000. These prices exclude French VAT at 20 per cent, waived under the French Government’s leaseback scheme.

• New in Tignes this ski season is the introduction of a fleet of 40 eco-friendly Renault Twizy electric vehicles equipped with snow tyres and a ski carrier. Dubbed ‘Boris Bikes in the snow,’ some of the vehicles are kept at Résidence Kalinda for use by residents who prefer not to take the ten-minute ski bus ride to nearby Tignes Le Lac and Tignes Val Claret.’
