What Is the Annual Cost of a Small Wastewater Treatment Plant in France?
Essential Reading
The annual cost of a small wastewater treatment plant varies according to different elements and, of course, according to the manufacturer.
It is important to define the costs before purchasing a small wastewater treatment plant. It is also important to know that, as always with sewage treatment plants, the annual cost will also depend on the maintenance of your system.
Financial grants might also be available for construction, renovation, purchase or sale of a property.
To clarify the subject, let’s take the example of a Tricel FR6/3000 small wastewater treatment plant.
One-Off Costs for a Small Wastewater Treatment Plant
Before buying a small wastewater treatment plant, different costs are to be taken into account:
- For any project submitted to the SPANC, it is recommended to carry out a site assessment “étude des sols” from a site assessor “bureau d’études”. The price of the site assessment can vary between 200 and 500 euros.
- The purchase of the tank alone will cost between 4,000 and 5,000 euros. In addition, the installation of the small wastewater treatment plant can cost from 2,000 to 5,000 euros depending on the work required, the site, etc. Tricel’s exclusive partners in France have to do the commissioning of the plant, but they don’t have to do the installation. Indeed, if you wish to do the installation by yourself or with a preferred installer of your choice, it is perfectly possible. Have a look at the Tricel Novo Manual for more information.
- After the purchase and the installation of the device, the SPANC checks the concordance between your file and the installation carried out. The cost of the SPANC control varies between 50 and 350 euros.
The Annual Cost of a Wastewater Treatment Plant
The annual costs for a small wastewater treatment plant can be summarised in two categories:
- The Operation Cost
The small wastewater treatment plant works with electricity. Therefore, an operating cost is generated. Taking as a reference a daily rate of 0,1316 euros per kWh, this adds to an annual cost around 50 euros.
- The Maintenance Costs
Once your system has been inspected and validated, all that remains is maintenance. Any domestic sewage treatment system must be maintained regularly. The cost can vary depending on the system installed. It is necessary to count between 100 and 200 euros per year for the maintenance of your system.
It is also necessary to foresee the desludging or emptying of the tank. Depending on your “Population Equivalent” (PE, aka: EH for “Equilavent Habitant” in French), the frequency will be different (every 2.5 years to 5 years). The price will be similar to a maintenance, between 100 and 150 euros.
How Much to Budget For Your Wastewater Treatment Plant
To summarise, a small wastewater treatment plant can generate a cost of around 350 euros per year, taking the higher estimates.
Again, all of these costs are estimated. Depending on the area (region, departement), the plant and its usage, costs will vary.
