Lauragais – Cocagne Property Guide

The Unspoilt Area

The Lauragais is an area south-west of the Tarn with the pretty villages of Sorèze, Puylaurens (bastide village on a hill with stunning views over the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees), Dourgne, Cuq-Toulza and les Cammazes. A bit further north is the Pays de Cocagne with hot spots like Lautrec and Lavaur and charming villages like Giroussens and Briatexte. The warm tones of brick, the sunshine of yellow of sunflower fields and the culture of blue pastel (blue dyestuff highly prized in the 15 and 16th century) makes a mosaic of colour in this area.

The quaint villages of Lautrec and Sorèze make attractive second-home locations with property values tipped to appreciate with the completion of a by-pass from Castres to Toulouse, cutting driving time.

Surrounded by tiny valleys, forests and pastures, Lavaur is a hot spot both for main residences and second homes. Workers can commute within half an hour to Toulouse via the motorway or by train and the properties are cheaper than in Toulouse.
